Last week was a busy one. We did little trips to either museums, churches, or nearby towns every afternoon after Italian class. My favorite was our Thursday trip to Fiesole, which is higher up in the hills than Florence and subsequently far cooler. There was a nice breeze blowing through. Even the bus ride yielded magnificent views, though the public buses are mostly standing room only and tend to whip around corners and come to sudden stops... meaning you get slammed into a lot of random strangers who all seem to be better at keeping their balance than you. But Fiesole was well worth the discomfort of the bus ride.
Check out that amphitheater!
Oh yeah, and also the view!
A little farther along, there are ruins of an Etruscan temple with a Roman temple built right on top of it. Almost everywhere we go, the remains of buildings are two or three or more layers deep. It's crazy.
The program director encouraged us to climb around and explore, so we got right on that.
I was very much appreciating my adventuring boots that day. (Thank you, Niles, for the pictures of me.)
I think we were all just happy to be around some nature after two weeks in the center of the city. The air smelled cleaner, and personally, I was starved for the color green.
There was a series of baths below the amphitheater, framed by these majestic arches. Crazy to think how long those stones have stood there.
So that was the delightful Fiesole. The town itself is super cute too, and I wouldn't be averse to going back a third or even a fourth time.
Next up, Siena and Greve!
Thanks for reading,
