WANNA SEE SOME SCIENCE

The Galileo Museum was (a. totally rad and (b. also super relevant to my novel. I took a ton of pictures, and I plan on going back to sketch some of the machines sometime when we have a free weekend. I was going to include a description with every photo, but then I realized that for more than half of these things, I have no idea what they do.

I do know that this is an absolutely massive armillary that was given to.. I think a Grand Duchess of Florence as a wedding present from her husband. It's a geocentric model of the universe, and the rings represent the supposed orbits of the planets in our solar system, plus the Sun, around Earth.

These are Galileo's actual preserved fingers. And one of his teeth.

Some of the stuff in the museum was from must later than Galileo's time. I believe this alchemy/chemistry table is from the eighteenth century.

Apparently this lens is so powerful it can burn through diamonds.

So that was a good time. Next up, pictures from Fiesole!
